BOARD OF BISHOPS
In order to achieve incorporation as a not-for-profit religious group, a church must comply with certain rules that have been set in place by the Internal Revenue Service. Among these are the naming of a board of directors -- or, in the case of this particular church, a Board of Bishops.Under our by-laws, the Board of Bishops exists to administer the church's financial and pastoral duties, and to assign the day-to-day administration to clergy who function as Ministers and Deacons.
In keeping with our inter-faith or multi-faith beliefs, our Board of Bishops consists of people from varied religious traditions who support the goals and aims of this church.
The Board of Bishops includes catherine yronwode, nagasiva yronwode, Dr. Christos Kioni (aka Kenneth Fuller), John Michael Greer, and Ferne Aycock. [Later amended to replace Ferne Aycock with Fred Burke, and thus submitted for incorporation -- c.y.]
When and if it comes time to expand Missionary Independent beyond the single church that we have established in Forestville, it will be the Board of Bishops who will examine the applications of prospective ministers, certify their ordinations, see to it that their buildings or chapels are duly consecrated, and grant their churches warrants to function as units of our Convocation.
GRATEFUL THANKS
Ever since we announced our vision for this church, and selected a building, t\we have received donations from the public. We are very grateful to all of those who, from the very beginning, have believed in the work we are doing, and who have contributed. Our very first donor of record was Sindy Todo, who, on he day she first learned that the church had come into existence, sent a contribution to our Building Fund. As time has gone by, and customers to the Lucky Mojo Curio Co. have watched the carpentry work in progress and made donations ranging in size from $1.00 to $50.00 to help us along.The church building itself is not owned by the church. It is on the same property as Arkaotika (a residence), Y.I.P.P.I.E. (the Yronwode Institution for the Preservation and Popularization of Indigenous Ethnomagicology), the Lucky Mojo Curio Co., the Oliver Barn, and the Oliver Chicken House. The property owners have given the church a period of rent-free occupancy, commencing on Consecration Day (May 12th, 2007) and ending on December 31st, 2008. After that, a nominal monthly rent will be paid by the church for the use of the building. Therefore, the funds contributed to date for "building" the church are actually being used for the purchase of statuary, altar tools, and items that are independent of the building, such as a sound system. In addition, a large part of the altar statuary has been placed in the church on long-term loan from the private folk-art collections of catherine and nagasiva yronwode.
Again, we thank all who have contributed to the establishment of our little church, and who make it the lovely architectural and artistic gem it is.
